Hey there, my name is Yi! Welcome to Fog of Edu, a space I’ve created for exploration and discovery. The name “Fog of Edu” is inspired by the “Fog of War” (FoW) concept from real-time strategy games like StarCraft and League of Legends. If you are not familiar with it, FoW is a mechanism that obscures the game map, revealing only the areas around your units. This concept is also a significant part of my doctoral dissertation, Learning in the Fog: Unveiling Learning Networks in LoL and Higher Education. More importantly, it reflects my view that, despite a century-long series of debates and conversations, educational discourse still only illuminates limited areas, much like placing a ward in a large area covered by FoW. The “fog” surrounding education seems to be growing denser with the increasing pace of change and complexity in the world.

Fog of Edu is built upon the idea of a Digital Garden, one of its vigorous promoters Wanderloots described it as a Public Personal Knowledge Management System, an approach of growing ideas by sharing the process of provoking thoughts, not solely the polished end result, to the public. Digital garden is a space where valuable content can emerge through open conversation.

In line with this philosophy, Fog of Edu will showcase my explorations—as a Ph.D. in education, a father, and a knowledge management and writing enthusiast—into the “fog” surrounding educational conversations. The content here will likely be raw, fragmented, and perhaps even a bit absurd at times. But it’s in this muddy, dark, and sometimes even smelly soil that beautiful seeds lie dormant, waiting to sprout and bloom in the sunlight.

This space is currently in its early stages. I’ll be gradually cultivating my thoughts in following fogged areas based on my interests:

  1. Fogged Area One: Education and AI
  2. Fogged Area Two: Family Education
  3. Fogged Area Three: Knowledge Management and Writing
  4. Fogged Area Four: Who am I?
